Sex Therapy
An active and healthy sex life is an important part of an adult couple relationship. However it is much more common than you might think for people to encounter sexual problems at some point in their lives.
The reasons why this can happen are many and varied, but can include:
- Stress
- Tiredness
- Illness
- Family pressures
- Work worries or unemployment
- A new baby
We can help whether the problem is physical or emotional and over 90% of the people that we see tell us that we help them make their sexual relationship significantly better.
Relate sex therapists see lots of people with difficulties such as:
- Loss of desire
- Erectile difficulties
- Premature ejaculation
- Pain on intercourse
What happens during sex therapy?
First you will meet with a sex therapist, who will discuss the problem with you and explore what you want to achieve or change. You will be able to talk about the best way forward in your particular circumstances, and whether Relate is the appropriate agency to help you.
If you come to us for regular sessions, you will see the same therapist each time, usually for weekly appointments. You will be given a programme of exercises to do at home. You will never be asked to undertake any sexual tasks during a session.
