Working for Relate
Become a Relate Counsellor
Being a Relate counsellor is a fulfilling and challenging job in which you can make a real difference to people's lives.
Relate RKH holds occasional Information Sessions for people who are thinking about training as Relate counsellors. If you would like to find out more, please email rosanagh@relaterkh.org
We welcome applications from people wanting to train as counsellors, from any of our local communities in Richmond, Kingston and Hounslow. If you have no counselling background, either practical or academic, you may be required to do a basic counselling skills course before you are invited to selection.
As we offer counselling in the daytime, at weekends and in the evenings, the opportunity for flexible working enables you to fit Relate work around other commitments. You should not, however, underestimate the nature of the commitment required of a counsellor, both mentally and in terms of time for preparation and training as well as counselling.
Selection and training of counsellors is carried out by The Relate Institute. You do need to have secured a placement in a Relate Centre before you can start training, so it is advisable to contact your local Centre before going for selection.
The selection process identifies people who have personal characteristics and life experience which equip them well for training and work as relationship counsellors. It ensures equality of opportunity for applicants, the avoidance of discriminatory practices, and that trainees of a consistently high standard are recruited. To find out more about training and selection go to Relate National's website on www.relate.org.uk, or email us in Richmond on rosanagh@relaterkh.org.
Trustees
Trustees of a Relate Centre are people who support Relate's mission to promote health, respect, and justice in couple and family relationships.
As a member of the Board of Trustees you would share the responsibility for the overall running, strategic direction, management and financial security of Relate Richmond Kingston and Hounslow.
Our trustees have a range of skills and experience and enjoy taking an active role in our community. Their particular skills include management, finance, legal, public relations, fund-raising, counselling, social welfare, young people and education.
Relate RKH is currently recruiting new trustees.
If you would like to find out more about the role of Trustee, please contact us by phone, email or letter. We welcome applicants from all sectors of our community, regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation.
Administration staff
Our main offices are staffed by Appointment Secretaries who undertake all the administrative back-up required to support our counselling work. The work is part-time and flexible, as our opening hours are from early morning until 10pm on weekdays and we are also open on Saturdays.
If you would like to find out more about working for us, please contact us by phone or email.
